Diigo is a free social bookmarking and annotation site. It makes digital note taking easier for patrons by allowing them to take personal notes and highlight text information on web pages. These notes and highlights will be saved and can be accessed at a later date. You can bookmark these annotated pages to make it easier to reach them again, for further reference. Everything that is annotated and bookmarked can be shared with users and non-users. The purpose of Diigo is to make research and collaboration easier, making communication much more prominent.

The first step to annotating a web page in Diigo is highlighting. To do so, click the "Highlighter" button on the toolbar and drag your mouse across the text to highlight. This information will automatically be saved and will reappear on the web page when you return at a later date.

When scrolled over, the bubble expands, revealing the notes and comments, as well as who made the comment and at what time.
Bookmarking
To add and edit a bookmark, go to the Diigo menu, click “Save”, and the bookmarks option will pop upYou can then add a title, make it public/private, add a description, add tags, add to a list, share, mark as unread, edit the URL, and more. Remember to save your bookmark when you are done. As users bookmark the web page, Diigo allows the ability to add tags to keep everything organized. Users can choose to keep the bookmark private or make it available to the public.
Search

Share
Diigo lets users share their bookmarks, complete with annotations, with other people. The bookmarks can also be shared with non-users. Non-users will receive an email with a link to the web page and a summary of any notes or highlights that were made. They will not be able to view the annotations in the context of the page without becoming a member of Diigo. For Diigo users, they will be able to see the web page with annotations, while being allowed to add notes of their own.
Collaboration and Groups
Users can join or create groups to share information. You can join any of the public groups with a similar interest, join a group of friends, or even create a group for a specific project.
